Re-ordering pictures in a WordPress image gallery

Changing the order of your pictures in a WordPress image gallery widget is easy enough, but not entirely straightfoward.  Here's how to do it.

Log into your WordPress admin dashboard and go to Pages.
Edit the page with the image gallery you will be reordering
Click on the Wordpress image gallery widget
Then click the Edit Gallery icon that appears in the upper left corner
The gallery edit window pops up.  Click and drag in title bar area to the new position and release.
(the cursor shown in the image below indicates you are in the drag bar region)
You can also change the order pictures appear in the gallery by changing the number in the input field left of the Show link.  These numbers automatically update when you use the dragging method.
Make sure the sort order is defined, generally you will use "ascending". You can set the sort order at the top of the gallery edit window. Ascending/descending is also an option at the bottom of the gallery edit window, as show in the image below.
Important Step!  Scroll to the bottom of the gallery edit window and press
Save all changes THEN Update gallery settings
Finally, press the Update button in the right column of the page edit screen to save all your changes.

Embedding a YouTube video in a blog post

Adding a YouTube video to a WordPress blog post is just a few easy steps, listed below. Follow them and have your favorite videos on your blog in no time.
  1. In your browser, go to the YouTube video you want to embed on your blog.

Click the Share tab (a) and then Embed (b) in the sub-menu that appears. Adjust the video size if desired (c), select the embed code (d) and right-click, select copy. You can also copy the code by pressing CTRL+C.
  2. Now go to your blog and create a new post or edit the post you want to add the video to.

Make sure to select the Text tab on the right side of the editor.

This tab is labelled HTML in older version of wordpress.

Click inside the post edit area to set your cursor position, then right-click and select Paste (or press CTRL+P).
  3. That's it! Save your changes by pressing the blue Update button.
You can view your accomplishment by selecting View Post on the topmost menu.

For regular posting and editing, you will probably want to set the editor back to Visual mode by clicking the tab next to Text. The embedded video will show up as a placeholder rectangle in the editor's visual mode.
